Went to the Canterbury St. Augustine’s library today, used the Mac room to use Adobe After Effects. AE is a program I have never used before aside from the 4 lessons we have had, training us how to get to grips with it all) so I was very daunted by the idea of using it, as I like to produce something that is of high standards.
Got there and loaded up Photoshop for the background image. I chose these 2 colours because I looked again at my mood board and they were a constant. I then added a slight posterize effect for additional depth.
Browsed through fonts and decided on ‘Gill Sans Ultra Bold’ as it is a strong and powerful type face, directly reflecting the speech then. Again, the mood board influenced the choice of colour for the type, red.
The way I worked was by aligning all the words I would see on the screen into the position I wanted them and working backwards. Almost as if they were where they should be and then leaving, but played back it was how it should be. By using this method, I feel It was made as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Also made good use of the ‘letter spacing’, ‘letter width’, ‘letter height’ and the like by doing this.
One thing I would like to point out is, when Will Smith is not delivering a punchy line I decided to make it lower case but the ‘Gill Sans Ultra Bold’ looked out of place. So I cycled through the type faces again and decided for the less important lines, that the attention isn’t going to necessarily be drawn to, I would use Arial Black.
