Objective: 3 minute short film that has a strong/clear story
OBSERVE: “BEGINNING, MIDDLE and END” and “PROTAGONIST & ANTAGONIST”
Choosing a Group:
Who? Me, Danny, Will, Peter
Why? Strong members, strong team. All know what we want to achieve and (providing we don’t clash) we should be able to put our knowledge and skills together to produce a great final piece.
Choosing a Genre:
As a group we listed all the genres we could think of:
comedy, drama, documentary, MOCumentary, horror, thriller, action, musical, chick flick, rom com, adventure, sci-fi, war, gangster, fantasy, epic, parody.
We then immediately ruled out the impossible to do genres and the ones that we should avoid:
Musical | no-one in the group has any musical skills
Parody | over done and no longer original
Sci-fi | hard to make it convincing on a low budget
Comedy | should avoid due to wide ranges of humour, fail to make everyone laugh and you fail the objective of the film
adventure | budget comes into play here again but also hard to create an adventure in 3 minutes
fantasy | low budget
horror | massively over done and would just be white noise on the internet now
chick flick/rom com | rubbish movies, we all wanted to avoid them
ganster/war | budget
documentary | must be fictional
This leaves us with a dramatic, action thriller.
Today we all agreed to start jotting down ideas and we shall meet up on Thursday, between our 1pm and 3pm lecture, to see what we’ve all come up with and begin to compile a rough idea of what we want the story to be.
If I’m honest, I have my reservations about an Action movie. I’ve seen some amateur action films and the acting and fighting is utterly diabolical. I think I’ll make my script ideas more about the drama and thrills to avoid the same outcomes.
