In the previous post I mentioned acknowledging the sentence “Magazine on a mission- to reshape the debate across the movie landscape”. But I also mentioned that I was finding it hard to see the relevance of it.
So I read up on Little White Lies some more.
It turns out that the above quote is actually their key principle. It comes from a larger sentence:
“Because movies don’t exist in a vacuum, we venture beyond the boundaries of the big screen, exploring the worlds of music, art, politics and pop culture to inform and illuminate the medium we love. Bold, beautiful and unique, LWLies is a magazine on a mission – to reshape the debate across the movie landscape.”
My issue with this quote is the word “debate”, what debate is there?
I looked up the definition of the word and, along with formal arguments, I saw the words consider and deliberate. The sentence is transformed when you replace “debate” with “consider”.
My translation is below:
“The medium of film is a broad one, so we look beyond Hollywood Blockbusters into independent and smaller films. Often the Hollywood Blockbusters lack identity but indie films, more often than not portray the loves and the soul of the creators. This soul lights up movies. Our magazine is bold, beautiful and unique and we want to get our audience to reconsider their movie landscape.”
I know have a greater understanding of the magazines objective. But I still find it hard to place a link between the objective of the magazine and my design.
Perhaps it is just telling me to be fresh and unique with the design to abide by the belief that film is beautiful.
