I sat down with the brief, a list of Little White Lies covers and the case for Super 8 (I have chosen ‘Super 8’ as the film from the list as it is my favourite from it and I have seen it most recently) , I:
- Read through the brief and chose key points or sentences to understand what I was being asked,
- Thought of as many words (closely or tediously linked) to the film Super 8,
- And with the Little White Lies covers in front of me brainstormed the observations I made.
1. Re-writing the Brief
Three words that really should be taken into consideration (that I will assess every concept and design on) are Simple, Iconic and Unique.
Perhaps acknowledge the sentence “Magazine on a mission- to reshape the debate across the movie landscape”. I say that because it was included in the brief but at this point I find it hard to see the relevance..
2. Super 8 Brainstorm
Spitting out words, a few ideas came to me.
Firstly, cube’s are an important feature of the film, thousands of them combine to create a spaceship. Perhaps create the image with just cubes.
Also, the film is set in 1979. I could do a little research into the year, looking for patterns or anything else that could come into play for my design.
3. Little White Lies Observations
After pointing out the obvious (simple designs, all illustrations, bold colours) I delved a little deeper into the simple designs, illustrations and bold colours and came across this finding;
So to summaries, I can either do one of two things.
a) use the expressions on the characters face to depict the type of movie
b) use the colours and style in the design to do that
Rarely is it the case that both will do it.
