I’ve been thinking about what I can do the video on.
I originally thought about making a “Stop Smoking” advert in the theme of the intro to the movie “Se7en” but then I decided against it as it would be a lot like the last project (kinetic typography).
I then thought about making a trailer for the movie we are making in Lens Based Media but then realised that the filming for that project could potentially be quite late on, leaving me too close to the deadline for comfort.
So after a lot of deliberation, I have chosen to do a short video advertising myself. As egotistical as it sounds, I think it would be good to play on my website so that people visiting will know what they are getting from me.
So the aim is to create a 30-60 second video that reflects and advertises my style and ability.
I thought of ways to do this and then considered how they would work:
- Things I can do.
e.g. a visually stimulating portfolio of work I have done.
It would be good as it would satisfy my ability but perhaps a little dull and unadventurous.
- What makes me- Frankenstein.
e.g. an animation of things I enjoy and have done (design work-wise) coming together to form a body below my head.
Good to show what I like (shows who I am) but can’t see it looking very professional
e.g. all the things from above but going into a cauldron, at the end I appear.
Again, good to show what makes me but doesn’t show my style
- In My Head.
e.g. a photo/video of my head, opens at the top (like a lid) starting a big messy and busy explosion of things that I have done, do in my spare time and other things about me.
I would say my strongest idea yet, I could chose the background on a style that I like and it would be a really interesting video that engages the attention of the audience. I would however have to have a really long list of things to make sure that it would be interesting for at least 30 seconds.
I think I will pursue my fourth idea, starting with the list and choosing a style- perhaps do some sketches of what I want to see..
List to sum me up and items that could be incorporated into animation:
- Massive movie fan: dvd’s/bluray/film strip
- Styles: Art Deco/Nokia Maps Ad
- My Logo > bringing me onto my work
- Cartoons: Work I’ve done in own time
- Older work: stuff from school/college/drawings as a child
- I’m a visual person: Pen on paper
- Quotes that I like
- My past: Childhood images
- My present: Where I live
The list is by no means exhausted but I think it is a good start.
Next I will look at styles and try to extend the list.
