Here are my designs so far. I haven’t really applied the previous post’s findings to these yet (as I did them slightly before) but I intend to edit them accordingly: experiment with red shine’s and maybe dirty [oil/blood] hand prints…
Top Left: The basic idea is that Gosling’s character is so low-key, aiming to go unnoticed, he is just a part of the landscape.
Top Right: Expanding on from the first (many levels), not only is he part of the city, no one knows who he is- he’s unrecognisable and therefore has no face. Criticised for it giving wrong impression.
Top Left: Progression of second idea, surrounding lack of identity. Whilst searching for the filter to pixelate his face, I came across this and thought it looked quite abstract. Really makes you wonder who is he. Has no relevance.
Top Right: The Driver is pixelated. This adds to the idea of ‘who is he’ but furthers onto the idea of criminality. All relevant features.
I think this is my favourite as it does have 3 levels:
ONE | He is part of the landscape
TWO | No face, no identity
THREE | Pixelated face makes you think of Crime Watch and related concepts
Bottom: This is just another idea (loosing the pixelation and with it 2 of the levels of meaning..). It’s perhaps much more simpler and 2-dimensional. It brings up the idea of blood, an overdone style in entries for the competition [can see this through Google searches]. But it looks clear and speaks directly to the films initial impression.
