Dirty Hands Concept
Below are two designs, furthered from before. They centre around the lines “my hands are dirty.”
The left image is what I had in mind when I discovered the idea, but it feels like an after thought and not like part of the image.
However, the right image feels so much deeper. It is the exact same hand print, just smaller and with a lower opacity. This somehow opens up a whole new load of levels to which the design works at:
- Blending into become part of the city.
- The idea of Dirty Hands comes into play but..
- .. at the same time it looks like he is just dirtied with oil. This could be a good “what do you see” design. Double Meaning, complex like I intended.
- Face is still obstructed! Loosely plays with the identity idea.
I will do a little research into how this works. I shall show people and see if they do, in fact, see the hand print right away or just think he is a mechanic. Depending on the outcome (if the Double Meaning thing works) I might chose this as my hand in!
I toyed with the idea of portraying the Rage inside of The Driver with red shine on his face, but I think it just looks like he has a bit of sunburn and definitely doesn’t put across the idea of a burning rage urging to explode out of him!
I then took the idea of ‘Rage’ a little bit further and added fire to the image, but it takes away the ominous feel to it. Perhaps this is a good thing though? It focuses on who the driver is but in a different way. It shows attention to the little bit of character we do actually see.. Maybe a good angle but visually I don’t think it works.
So I did a simple change and made the fire black&white (giving really vibrant whites) and I think this keeps the ominous feel- Perhaps loosing the rage?
Apparently I cannot have both!
Finally, I created this idea. It is a simple way to show (in the same way the film does) his focus when on a job.
A little obvious and not too much to read into- Doesn’t look too great either.
