I began to look into designing my Box, Instructions Manual and a Device to Select a Random Technique.
The Cover Box
This is the net for my Cover Box. It’s thin because it only has to hold 20 sheets of paper (10 folded). The Right will be the front and the Left is the back cover. The thin panels above, below and to the left of the Front Cover are spines. The larger panels are just to be glued, to hold the 3D shape.
This is what I thought was the final Front Cover design but I woke up today and Hated it! Back to the drawing board I guess!
Will have to look again at existing covers to really reach back to that original idea of mocking the genre.
I Googled ’10 sided shape’ to try and get an idea of how the user would select the random technique, I was thinking of an easy to put together dice.
The term for a 10-sided 3D shape is ‘Decahedron’.
Below is 2 nets that I could use. I searched for ages but apparently you can’t have a 10 sided net. So I would have to use one of these 12 or 14 faced nets and perhaps decorate the blank faces with a logo or something.
I am a little concerned, however, that this is too fiddly for people to want to do. Giving them a pre-made 3D paper shape is not an option but perhaps there is another way around it..?
I chose this to be my Randomiser. Put a pencil through the middle and spin it. The number it stops at is the technique you use to unwind/relax. Simple.
This A5 piece of paper, loose within the box, will explain the Theory behind the random order and have instructions on how to select them and use the website in conjunction with the book.
I hope this sheet is the easiest aspect of the entire project.
